The Influence of Artistic Styles on Image Generation.

Introduction

Describing in detail the visual appearance of AI-generated artwork can be a challenging task, as many have discovered. To accurately translate your artistic vision into reality, mastering the art of crafting precise prompts is crucial. This skill, known as prompt engineering, allows you to provide clear and targeted descriptions that influence various aspects of the generated artwork, such as style, subject matter, mood, palette, and more.

Prompt engineering establishes a collaborative and iterative relationship between the artist and the AI model, facilitating the co-creation of artistic output. It grants artists the freedom to explore and experiment with the AI model's capabilities while staying true to their creative intent and vision. By employing thoughtful prompt engineering techniques, artists can unlock the full potential of generative AI art, resulting in personalized, unique, and meaningful artistic expressions.

This short blog will demonstrate how styles can influence and dramatically change your images aesthetic. For this demonstration, I will use Midjourney v5.2 and will use the seed 13579 for each image to provide a level of basic composition consistency. The original reference image I’ll use is the basic prompt:

/image prompt: busy Tokyo street —seed 13579 —q 2 —ar 16:9 —no words,mockups,watermarks

This produces a nice grid containing a variety of busy Tokyo street scenes. So, how can we influence these images with styles?

A basic style change you may want, is to introduce a cartoon style. As you can imagine, there are numerous cartoon styles but two I will show here are:

Cartoon Core

This style introduces a vivid and colorful color palette, with a mix of bright primary colors with dynamic and expressive linework. To add this style, I will use the prompt

/image prompt: cartoon core,busy Tokyo street —seed 13579 —q 2 —ar 16:9 —no words,mockups,watermarks
